There were several wars between the Boers and other Empires but two wars were between two of the Boer republics ,Orange Free State and the South African republic (Transvaal Republic) and the British Empire.

The Transvaal Republic was founded by settlers known as Voortrekkers who made the great trek from the cape colony

The Boers are dutch farmers who settled in the southern parts of South Africa in the 17th century.
They intermingled with other European settlers and established the Afrikaner or Boer (Dutch for farmer) community.

north-eastward migration away from British control in the Cape  Colony during the 1830s and 1840s by Boers The migrants were descended from settlers from western mainland Europe, most notably from the Netherlands.

The Great Trek itself led to the founding of three Afrikaner nations, Natalia, the Orange Free State and the Transvaal.
